How to Clean Gold Jewellery

Gold resists corrosion, but skin oils, soap, perfume and everyday dust can collect on its surface and reduce its shine. Gentle, regular care helps preserve the appearance of your jewellery.
Gentle cleaning at home
Mix lukewarm water with a small amount of mild washing-up liquid. Let the piece rest briefly, then clean it lightly with a very soft brush. Rinse with clean water and dry completely using a soft, lint-free cloth.
If you are working over a sink, close the drain first. Hard brushes, abrasive powders, toothpaste and unverified chemical mixtures can scratch or dull the surface.
Take care with gemstones and delicate pieces
Not every gemstone is suitable for the same cleaning method. Pearls, opals and some coloured stones may be sensitive to heat, chemicals or prolonged contact with water. If you are unsure about the stone or its setting, seek professional advice instead of soaking it at home.
Everyday wear and storage
Put jewellery on after applying perfume, creams and hair products. Limit contact with pool chlorine, household cleaners and hard surfaces. Store pieces separately in soft compartments so they cannot rub against one another.
If you notice a loose stone, bent claw or damaged connection, stop wearing the piece. Checking its construction before professional cleaning is more important than polishing alone.
